چکیده

The current challenge in the field of thermo-ablative treatments tumors is to achieve a balance between complete destruction malignant cells and safeguarding surrounding healthy tissue. Blood perfusion plays key role for thermal ablation success, especially case highly vascularized organs like liver. This work aims at monitoring temperature within perfused swine liver undergoing laser (LA). Temperature was measured through seven arrays Fiber Bragg Grating sensors (FBGs) around applicator. To mimic reality, blood ex-vivo simulated using artificial vessels. influence on LA carried out by comparing profiles two different spatial configurations vessels fibers. proposed setup permitted accurately measure heat propagation real-time with resolution 0.1 °C observe relevant tissue cooling near vessel up 65%.

Thermal Strain Analysis of Optic Fiber Sensors

An optical fiber sensor surface bonded onto a host structure and subjected to a temperature change is analytically studied in this work. The analysis is developed in order to assess the thermal behavior of an optical fiber sensor designed for measuring the strain in the host structure. For a surface bonded optical fiber sensor, the measuring sensitivity is strongly dependent on the bonding char...

Intra-Tissue Pressure Measurement in Ex Vivo Liver Undergoing Laser Ablation with Fiber-Optic Fabry-Perot Probe

We report the first-ever intra-tissue pressure measurement performed during 1064 nm laser ablation (LA) of an ex vivo porcine liver. Pressure detection has been performed with a biocompatible, all-glass, temperature-insensitive Extrinsic Fabry-Perot Interferometry (EFPI) miniature probe; the proposed methodology mimics in-vivo treatment. Four experiments have been performed, positioning the pro...

Fiber-optic combined FPI/FBG sensors for monitoring of radiofrequency thermal ablation of liver tumors: ex vivo experiments.

We present a biocompatible, all-glass, 0.2 mm diameter, fiber-optic probe that combines an extrinsic Fabry-Perot interferometry and a proximal fiber Bragg grating sensor; the probe enables dual pressure and temperature measurement on an active 4 mm length, with 40 Pa and 0.2°C nominal accuracy. The sensing system has been applied to monitor online the radiofrequency thermal ablation of tumors i...

Fiber-Optic Chemical Sensors and Fiber-Optic Bio-Sensors

This review summarizes principles and current stage of development of fiber-optic chemical sensors (FOCS) and biosensors (FOBS). Fiber optic sensor (FOS) systems use the ability of optical fibers (OF) to guide the light in the spectral range from ultraviolet (UV) (180 nm) up to middle infrared (IR) (10 μm) and modulation of guided light by the parameters of the surrounding environment of the OF...

Fiber-optic chirped FBG for distributed thermal monitoring of ex-vivo radiofrequency ablation of liver.

A linearly chirped fiber Bragg grating (LCFBG) has been used as a temperature sensor for online monitoring of radiofrequency thermal ablation (RFTA). The LCFBG acts as a distributed sensor, with spatial resolution of 75 μm. A white-light setup that records the LCFBG spectrum estimates the temperature profile in real time. Three RFTA experiments have been performed ex-vivo on porcine liver measu...
